XI International Conference of the Study Group on Eighteenth-Century Russia
10th-14th July 2023
Nicoletta Cabassi (Università degli Studi di Parma, Italy), "Russia in Casanova's Eyes"
The aim of the work is to explore Russia through the impressions of the adventurer Giacomo Casanova in his two-year visit to St Petersburg and Moscow (1764-1766). Following the fil rouge of his "Mémoires de ma vie", the research will also focus on the “italian context” of those years, trying to shed a light on the Italian musicians, architects, and dance masters he encountered, populating the palaces and theatres of the Catherine’s period, in the frame of the spare time and entertainment described by the Italian Don Giovanni.
